Palm Beach County changed its zoning rules in 2021, requiring all group homes and assisted living facilities, even existing ones, to register with the local government for zoning approval.
What This Means for Existing Homes:
If your group home or assisted living facility is or was not licensed or certified by the State of Florida, you had one year to get the required certification.
If you did not get licensed or certified within this time, your facility will no longer be considered legal and must close within one year or 60 days after a denied certification—whichever comes first.
If your facility was previously licensed or certified, you must provide proof of your license or certification to the Zoning Division within one year.
If you fail to register or provide proof, you must either close the facility and relocate residents or apply for approval under the new ordinance.
Annual License Verification Now Required
All group homes and assisted living facilities must now submit proof of a valid license, certification, or charter every year. If a facility does not provide proof, its zoning approval can be revoked, and it may be forced to close.
